So many people ask what they should wear to their group graduation photos when they schedule larger sessions with me! Group coordination is something SO important to make photos look cohesive and pleasing to the eyes.
I recommend picking some sort of color scheme for the photos, and making sure everyone sends their outfits before the shoot to make sure there is no clashing or anything too matchy-matchy. I’d suggest colors like all white, white and denim, pastels, rainbows, shades of your school color, etc. I’ve linked some of my favorite white dresses here, and some affordable white dresses here. With these different color schemes, individuals will be able to wear all different styles and accessories (you can add your own individual touch!) but the group will still look together. I prefer lighter colors vs black, but it’s totally up to you! I would also avoid super busy patterns like stripes, etc.
While it might be easy to stick with neutrals and lighter outfits, don’t be afraid of color! Some of my favorite shoots have subtle patterns or bright colors that make you stand out. As long as the tones and vibes of the colors are the same, the group shots will look united and well-put together. If you have school or sorority stoles, make sure everyone brings those! Another idea is to all wear a cap and gown! If you are doing your session earlier in the year you may purchase a gown of your school color on amazon, like this one I use in my sessions. Make sure everyone STEAMS OR IRONS their stoles, gowns, and dresses before the shoot!
One of my favorite looks are the ones unique to your school- like the jersey and cowboy boot look! It’s a little homage to colleges in the South, and it’s a great way to throw in some school spirit during your session. Anything unique to your school or friend group adds just a little unique flare to the shots, and it’s something I highly recommend!
