Hey guys!
I thought I’d make a blog post just about popping champagne! It really is an art to master and after hundreds of shoots of failed attempts and getting the it just right, I’ve finally discovered how to get that perfect champagne pop photo.
The trick is… DON’T POP IT. Most people think they should get a bottle with a cork vs. twist off- but either works totally fine! The best way to do this is to go ahead and uncork the bottle before shaking it, then immediately put your thumb over it to hold in the bubbles! Then once everyone is set in place, my camera settings are good to go, and we can do a countdown, then you shake, shake, shake until it starts spraying everywhere! The photos turn out best when the champagne is angled just slightly away from me, but in my direction (yes, I’ve gotten quite a few champagne showers but it’s so worth it). If you are in a group it is best to have 2 people to a bottle, otherwise too much champagne is spraying and blocking your faces. A lot of times people bring two bottles per person in case the first round doesn’t go as well.
As far as which brands of champagne (or sparkling wine), a good cheap go-to is André since most of it will be wasted. However, some helpful tricks I’ve seen clients do before is replacing the labels, or pouring André into a nicer bottle, then shaking it! This way you can have that ~boujee~ look but still not be too wasteful.
