This February we had the pleasure of visiting San Miguel de Allende, Mexico for a wedding. It was the most incredible weekend of festivities celebrating our friends, Ashley & Ford Noble. They made it a seamless weekend for all their guests and provided us with amazing recommendations for our visit! I’d love to go back some day and spend even more time exploring all that the beautiful city has to offer. It is a very safe town with a large expat population and is one of Mexico’s safest cities! February is a great time of the year to visit with no rain and warm sunny days, but chillier nights.
GETTING THERE:
San Miguel is fairly easy to get to from Dallas, since there are non-stop flights (a little over 2 hrs long) from DFW to QRO. QRO is the closest airport, about an hour drive to get to San Miguel. You can also fly into BJX (1.5 hr drive) or Mexico City (4 hr drive). Many hotels offer shuttle services from QRO or you can reserve a taxi or private driver in advance. Once you arrive in San Miguel pretty much everything is walkable! There are taxis around town if you need them or if you’re staying further out of town, but you will want to spend as much time as possible walking the beautiful cobblestone streets (bring comfy shoes)! A long weekend is a perfect amount of time to visit this city.
WHERE TO STAY:
We stayed at the Rosewood San Miguel de Allende and it was amazing. Since we had a large group we stayed in one of the residences that had multiple bedrooms. The whole property was beautiful and is a must-see even if you are staying elsewhere. There are plenty of nice Airbnbs in town as well as boutique hotels.
WHAT TO DO:
San Miguel is a fairly small town so while there is plenty to do, you also have time to relax and wander at a slower pace. Here are some must-sees as well as activity ideas:
WHERE TO EAT + DRINK:
There are so many amazing restaurants in San Miguel! I will say eating with celiac disease was a little difficult at times, but most restaurants had at least some gluten free options! We only got to try a couple spots but if I go back these will all be on my list:
IMPORTANT TO VISIT:
We are so lucky to have had this incredible experience in San Miguel and can’t wait to return someday! Thank you to The Nobles for hosting such a well-planned weekend!
